The Importance of the Tee Shot!

The majority of golfers underestimate the amount of impact the Tee Shot has on a golfers game and more importantly overall score. The Tee Shot is the very first shot that will be taken on each golf course and each golf hole. In essence it is the start of the game.

The mentality of many golfers is to hit or whack the ball as far as possible. And for the rest of the game, that is their game plan. If you notice when you start a conversation about golf, more often than not a great deal of players ask How far can you hit the ball? And that is the concept that unfortunately the game becomes to a lot of players. It becomes all about power and distance. So this notion is then taken into their game plan.

There are several ways to lower that score when taking a Tee Shot. Remember you have to keep focus and work at it.

First and foremost, analyze the course or what the professionals say read the course. From the tee, you can gather how far it is to the hole and what obstacles you have in front of you. Does it have a dog leg? How far until the hole bends? Are their sand banks or water holes further ahead? All of these factors should get you thinking on how you are going to play the hole. Remember that the Tee Shot should be regarded as like all golf shots a set up shot. You are setting up (placing) the golf ball at a certain point of the course to enable you to take an easier next shot. What numerous players do is make their own hole. Instead of trying to reach the hole by hitting the ball as far as possible, many players visualise a closer hole that is in the area that will create a good set up shot. So as an alternative of trying to get to the hole in one shot, they space it out in a couple of shots. By doing so they remove the likely hood of error and increase the chances of lowering their golf score.

Do not rush your tee shot. It will affect the rest of your game plan for the hole. The Tee shot is your very first shot for the hole and secondly you have time. Golf shares similarities with many sports; we can compare the Tee Shot with a close range free kick shot in soccer (football) or to a serve in tennis. When David Beckham goes to take a free kick, he takes his time and thinks about what he is going to do. Likewise with Andy Roddick in tennis, he has a very powerful serve. If you watch him play he bounces the ball a few times, and then glances over at the other side of court to glance at the opponent. This should be the same as golf. When taking your tee shot relax, take deep breaths; look at where you are aiming at. Visualise yourself swinging at the ball, watch it flying through the sky and landing exactly how you want it to. Slow down your backswing, and dont forget to follow fully through the shot.

To recap on everything, place more importance on the Tee Shot. Do not always go for distance; focus more on accuracy and ball placement. Relax and take your time on the Tee Shot dont rush! Good luck with reducing your score! Enjoy the beautiful game!
